My name is Michael. I've recently had a fairly long stretch of bad luck and am in need of some major dental work. Unfortunately I'm unemployed at the moment, and have a hard time finding work due to the bad state my mouth is in. After much prodding and coaxing from several of my friends, I've started this group action. My upper teeth are in such a sorry state that it's become difficult for me to chew, and my dentist says action is needed ASAP. I need my entire upper set of teeth pulled and a full upper denture plate.

I am including a picture of my teeth so you can see that I am not joking when I say they are in desperate need of replacement. I don't expect anyone to contribute to this, as it's the equivalent of being a cyberbum, but I am out of options at this point. My family didn't enforce strict dental hygeine when I was younger, and by the time I realized just how important that was for a healthy mouth, it was too late. My dentist seems to think I am at a very high risk for an infection that could travel along the nerve of a decayed tooth into my brain, which could lead to mental retardation or even death. You can imagine my surprise when my dentist explained this to me.

Thanks to a dental clinic here in Phoenix I qualified for reduced pricing on all my dental work so the price I have to pay for the work and the denture are approximately half of what I would pay to a normal dentist. The total for the surgical extractions, plus the denture plate and fitting comes to just under the target goal of this group action.

Any help you can provide will be most appreciated.

I've known you alot of years (gosh, almost 7 now!) and I know how important this goal is to you.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm pulling for you 110% and appreciate our longstanding friendship.

Best of luck!

My Best Friend

Let pull our resources together and make this happen for Mike. What's $20? A week at Mc Donalds? A trip to the movies? Would you sacrifice a trip to the movies to know you possibly saved someone's life?

This is my best friend. And helping him you also are helping me to know that I will still have a friend whom I have known and loved since 8th grade. If I had the money belive me I would pay for it myself.

Right now, I ask that you think of all the money you spend on video games, fast food, etc and realize how easy it would be to donate $20. It's that simple. Help my friend. Its the right thing to do.

Robert

I'll be submitting a donation

I'll be submitting a donation once I get my pay check this weekend. I'm going out to a bachelor party on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and when I get back I'll donate.

so glad to see you reached your goal!

i heard about your situation on npr, and, being in a similar situation myself, was happy to see a creative alternative.

don't consider yourself a bum either! the state of health/dental care is so pathetic in the US that too many people are suffering with no way out. i HAVE a job that i love, but it is for a non-profit and i am just under the hourly limit for healthcare, so my teeth continue to rot away. looks like this may be an option for me as well.

thanks to you and to fundable.org for giving me hope. :)

hi. i found this very interesting and i would like to know how i could go about having something similar done. as you stated in your story above, taking care of my teeth was not a priority when i was growing up and ill assure you i do regret it now. i never smile. i dont go out. and i remain single because of it. dental work is so expensive and i just can not afford to have anything done to mine. both upper and lower on mine need replacing. if you could be so kind to contact me with any info you may have i would so greatly appreciate it. my email address is computerstuf at gmail dot com. if you need a picture for proof ill be glad to supply one as long as i do not have to show my face. im embarrased enough as it is. i truly hope this worked out for you. i DO know how a smile can affect your life in ALL regards. thank you for taking the time to read this.
