Every serious web platform has tools for payment processing, but this has been an area that Plone has not yet resolved. With a rapidly growing body of users who are demanding this functionality, we need to make it easy to process simple payments through the site out-of-the-box (ie donations). Additionally, with a fleet of developers ready to make useful tools, we need a general framework for commerce in Plone that enables developers to build products for Plone that involve more sophisticated commerce applications (and not have to reinvent the basic stuff in the process).
This is a call to action! It doesn't have to be so painful. We want you to Get Paid via your (Plone) web site. And there's no better time to start than now, with a contribution to this product development project. To get the development going, we are having a "sprint" and bringing together some of the top talent from the distributed community around the Open Source Plone platform. This fundraiser will go to support the participation of a developer in the sprint on this topic, to be held March 14-17, 2007 in Chapell Hill, NC . For more on what we propose to do at the sprint: http://www.openplans.org/projects/bbq-sprint/plone-commerce For more on the project: http://www.openplans.org/projects/plonecommerce For more on the Camp 5 training and BBQ sprint: http://trizpug.org/boot-camp/camp5/

The community needs this and I'm glad someone can take up the cause. We will help as much as we can since we have some good PloneMall experience to draw on.
Let's keep it going!

Thank you all for your contribution to the Plone payment processing sprint! We have met our goal (which covers two basic costs), but we are going to continue the fundraising. I will send the next batch of $300 of funds raised to supporting a remote developer's participation in the process.
Please let your friends and contacts know about this project! Thanks again!
