Help Build a CitizenSpeak Module on CivicSpace

CitizenSpeak is a non-profit that offers a free email advocacy service for grassroots organizations. CitizenSpeak has enabled organizations and activists across the country to launch MoveOn-like email campaigns to raise awareness and build constituencies in their communities about issues such as discrimination, economic injustices and the environment. With support for campaigns in English and Spanish, CitizenSpeak provides a simple to understand and use service on an “as you need” basis to meet small grassroots activists’ limited financial and resource needs.

We are currently seeking funding to develop CitizenSpeak as a Drupal module that would be available as part of the larger CivicSpace toolset. By building a CivicSpace CitizenSpeak module we will achieve two main goals: 1) continue to offer CitizenSpeak as a free service by reducing site maintenance and update fees; 2) expand grassroots organizations access to email advocacy services by enabling other CivicSpace sites to offer branded CitizenSpeak services to their constituents.

Citizens today often lack the time to write letters and attend meetings. But, as large organizations such as MoveOn have proven, citizens do have time to click on a link to make a donation, sign up to volunteer or simply have their voice heard. By providing tools to help build a more civic-minded community, progressive organizations help build a larger and more invested base of support while learning more about what’s important to their constituents and members on the ground.

The cost for this project of $6500 is based on responses to an RFP circulated earlier this year. Once we have raised this money, we will outsource the development work, re-launch CitizenSpeak and make this new module available at the CivicSpace site.
