Having a cheerleading squad takes money. Fortunately, there are lots of ways to raise money throughout the year. Though your team maybe small in number, they are big in enthusiasm.

Here are some cheerleader fundraisers that are proven successful and easy to pull off. Each one will capitalize on your squad’s team spirit and personality.

Be sure to meet with your team first. Suggest these fundraiser ideas and then get “buy-in”. If they decide on the program, they are more likely to start strong and finish strong. 

Car Wash
Pick a Saturday but have a rain date scheduled.

Find a busy venue like a supermarket or mall parking lot.

Ask if there are insurance requirements from your city or town, and from the business location. Find out your city’s regulations, if any, for water run-off, car wash products, etc.

Increase your revenue by advertising using email, Facebook, and Twitter. Hang up flyers in school, businesses and common public areas like libraries. Ask your volunteers to spread the word to friends, family, co-workers and neighbors.

Make colorful signs on poster board showing car wash, price and the charity. Have sign wavers at every corner. 

Discount Cards
There are a few reasons discount cards are so popular: they provide great value for supporters and they’re profitable—from 50% to 90%. And with a cheerleading squad’s enthusiasm and number of contacts, raising lots of money with discount cards should be easy.

Discount cards are wallet-sized cards with specific discounts for food or goods and services in your area. The most popular are shopping cards and pizza cards.

The card supplier partners with 15 or 20 merchants in your area with each one offering a specific discount.

Cards cost about $5 each and sell for $10, $15, or $20 depending on the card value and the profit margin. Cards are valid for 1 year.

Sell cards at games and around school. Set up a table at a local supermarket on a weekend. Sell anywhere there is a lot of traffic. Remember to advertise what you’re selling. Why? And the price.

Magazine Sale
We bet your cheerleaders have lots of friends and acquaintances. Lots of contacts= lots of magazine sales=big profit. And guess what? There is little to do but sell. No overhead. No inventory. Here’s how it works.

Set up a fundraiser webpage with a magazines supplier. Then each person in your group invites friends, family and co-workers to the site using email, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Your supporters will have over 600 magazines to choose from. They can also sell subscriptions from catalogs at events and at school.

Profits are up to 40%.  And if your supporters renew the following year, your group will continue to receive the proceeds.

Sports Calendar
Create something lasting with a sports calendar. Gather your cheerleading squad and school teams together for a photo shoot. Take action shots as wells as group poses.

Enlist the school’s photography club to shoot the calendar. If you don’t have a club, find a student who wants to be the next Annie Leibovitz.

Have a copy store print the calendars. Then you’re ready to sell. Everyone in the calendar will want to buy one. And you can sell them at school and at events.
